Creating your NatWest Rooster Money account

A guide on how to create your Rooster Money account and add your Child profile

Getting started with Rooster Money is quick and easy. Follow the steps below to create your family account and start helping your child learn about money.

📲 Step 1: Download the App

You can download the Rooster Money app from:

  • Apple App Store

  • Google Play Store

Once the app has downloaded, open it and follow the steps below.

🧭 The SignUp Journey at a Glance

The setup process has 3 simple stages:

  1. Sign Up – Create your parent account

  2. Your Family – Add your child or children

  3. Your Account – Choose cards, tracker options, and checkout

Stage 1: Sign Up

This stage creates the parent account. Child profiles are added later.

  1. Confirm you are a parent or guardian

All Rooster Money accounts must be set up by an adult.

  1. Tap Create a new family account

    • If you’re joining an existing family account as a second parent or guardian, select Join existing family

    • ⚠️ Important: If you create a new account with your email, you won’t be able to use that same email to join an existing family later

  1. Create a username and password

  2. Set up biometrics (Face ID or fingerprint, if available)

  3. Choose your marketing preferences

That’s it! You’ve completed Sign Up and can now move on to Your Family.

👨‍👩‍👧 Stage 2: Your Family

This is where you add yourself and your child or children.

  1. Enter your legal name

    • You can also add what your child calls you (e.g. Mum, Dad)

  1. Add at least one child

    • Enter each child’s name and date of birth

    • You must add a child to continue

  1. Tap the final step once you’ve added all children

Success! Your Family is set up. Now let’s finish Your Account.

💳 Stage 3: Your Account

  1. Select your bank and follow the steps to connect your account

  2. Once connected, you’ll see options based on your child’s age:

    • Children aged 6+ → Option to order a Rooster Card

    • Children under 6 → Option to create a Tracker account

  1. Complete your Tax Residency

  2. Complete your Know Your Customer (KYC) checks

  3. Choose a Rooster Card for each eligible child

  4. Proceed to checkout and start exploring the app 🎉

No – I don’t have a NatWest, RBS, or Ulster Bank account

  1. You’ll see the following options based on your child’s age:

    • Children aged 6+ → Option to order a Rooster Card

    • Children under 6 → Option to create a Tracker account

  1. Complete your Tax Residency

  2. Complete your Know Your Customer (KYC) checks

  3. Choose whether to pay your subscription monthly or annually

  4. Choose a Rooster Card for each eligible child

  5. Proceed to checkout and explore the app 🎉

Success! Your account is now fully set up.

👶 My child is over 6 but not ready for a Rooster Card — what can I do?

No problem! You can choose “Not yet ready for a Rooster Card” and use the virtual tracker instead.

🔗 Why can’t I connect my bank account?

First, doublecheck that you’re eligible:

  • You’re connecting a UK-based NatWest, RBS, or Ulster Bank current account

  • You have online or mobile banking access on your device

Common reasons for connection issues:

  • Name mismatch: Your legal name in Rooster Money must match your bank account exactly

  • Account already linked: A bank account can only be linked to one Rooster Money account

  • Connection issue: Check your signal or WiFi and try again

🔍 What are Know Your Customer (KYC) checks?

To give your child a Rooster Card that holds real money, we’re legally required to verify your identity.

  • This is not a credit check

  • It won’t affect your credit score

  • We ask for your name, address, and date of birth

If we can’t verify you automatically, we’ll ask for photos of two identity documents. These are stored securely in line with our privacy policy.

🏷️ Where do I add a referral or promotional code?

  • If you started on our website, the code will be pre-filled

  • If you started in the app, you’ll see the option at the bottom of the checkout screen

🌍 Why do I need to enter my tax residency?

We’re legally required to collect this information to comply with international tax regulations.
