How to add the Rooster Card to the Apple Wallet and FAQs
Updated over a week ago

Apple Pay is available on selected Apple devices. Your child must be aged 13+ to use this service, and be on version 10.6.0 or newer of the NatWest Rooster Money app.

Before you start:

To add your child’s Rooster Card to the Apple Wallet you will first need to make sure that::

  • Your child is 13 years or older (you can read about how to verify your child’s age here)

  • Your child has their own Apple ID

  • The device your child will be using is verified on your NatWest Rooster Money app (you can read about how to verify your child's device here)

  • Your child’s NatWest Rooster Money app has been on their device for at least 30 days

  • Your child’s name on their NatWest Rooster Money profile is an exact match to the name on their Apple ID (if the name of your child is different in the app you can learn how to edit this here)

Use the right device:

To add the Rooster Card to the Apple Wallet you will first need to make sure your child is logged into their own profile on the desired device and follow the below instructions:

  • Click the Card on their homepage

  • Click ‘Card Settings’ and then ‘Get Ready for Apple Pay’

  • They will then see a screen in-app with the checklist that they need to complete to add their Rooster Card to the Apple Wallet

Verify your child's age - Apple Pay is only available to children aged 13+, as per Apple requirements

Apple Pay is only available to children aged 13 years or older. You will need to upload your child's proof of age document before your child can continue adding their Rooster Card to the Apple Wallet, the only documents that we can accept are:

  • Valid passport

  • Birth Certificate

When uploading your document, follow these tips on taking the best photo:

  • Make sure all four corners of the document are in the photo

  • Check for any overhead lights that can create glare on the image

  • Make sure the image is not blurry and that all information can be clearly read

  • Upload a recent image, ideally a new photo rather than one in saved in your photo gallery

You can read more about the proof of age process by clicking the button below

Verify your child’s phone number:

As part of the Apple Pay set-up checklist your child will also need to verify their phone number, this can be done via the child's profile by following these steps:

  • In their own profile your child needs to select ‘Menu’ and then 'Confirm your Phone Number'

  • On the next screen they should enter their phone number

  • They will then be sent a One Time Password to enter in order to verify their Phone Number

Verifying your child’s phone number is only required to confirm that the device they are using is their own device, NatWest Rooster Money does not store this phone number once the device has been verified.

Your child can edit or update their phone number in the app by logging into their profile, then selecting Menu > My Settings > Profile settings to view and change their phone number.

Once you’ve completed the actions on the checklist, your child will be Apple Pay ready

FAQs

For questions about Apple Pay or the Apple Wallet, you can reach out to Apple Official Support directly, found here.

Why can't my child see the option to add their Rooster Card to the Apple Wallet?

In order to be able to add your Rooster Card to your Apple Wallet, you will need to make sure that you and your child have updated your NatWest Rooster Money App to version 10.6.1.

Any older versions of the NatWest Rooster Money will not offer the Apple Pay option for you or your child to complete the steps in order to add the Rooster Card to your Apple Wallet.

You can update your NatWest Rooster Money App directly from the App Store. You can check which version of the app you are currently on by logging into NatWest Rooster Money and opening the Menu, at the bottom of the Menu you will see your app version.

I'm trying to add my Rooster Card via the Apple Wallet, why isn't this working?

You are only able to add your Rooster Card to your Apple Wallet directly from the NatWest Rooster Money App.

Any attempts to add your Rooster Card to your Apple Wallet directly from the wallet will fail.

I need to enter my CVV/Security Code to add my Rooster Card to the Apple Wallet - where do I find this?

The Security Code is your CVV.

Rooster Cards have a dynamic CVV that can be generated in the app by your child. To do this they need to log in to the NatWest Rooster Money profile:

  • Tap their Card Pot

  • Tap Card Settings

  • Select View CVV

The CVV lasts for 15 mins and can only be used once, after this a new CVV needs to be generated in the app.

You can read more about the NatWest Rooster Money dynamic CVV here.

Why can’t my child add the Rooster Card to their Apple Wallet?

If your child is struggling to add their Rooster Card to their Apple Wallet, firstly check that the following applies:

  • They are 13 years or older and you have verified their age in the app

  • They have their own Apple ID and the name on their Apple ID exactly matches the name on their NatWest Rooster Money profile

  • They are using their own device and have had the NatWest Rooster Money app on this device for at least 30 days

  • You have verified their device on the NatWest Rooster Money app

  • They are entering their correct, current phone number into the app when prompted to verify their account

If you’ve done everything you can, and your child still can’t add their card, then we recommend trying again in a few weeks, or contacting Apple to see if there is anything wrong with your child’s Apple ID or device.

Why has the Rooster Card been declined using Apple Pay?

A transaction made with the Rooster Card via Apple Pay can decline for the same reasons as the physical card.

You can check:

  • That the Rooster Card hasn’t been marked as frozen in the NatWest Rooster Money app

  • The balance in their Card pot has enough funds to pay for the transaction

  • The balance left on any daily, weekly or monthly spending limits that you have set

  • Make sure that the card in the Apple Wallet is still the most current card

For more information about Apple Pay transactions, please reach out to Apple Pay for support here.

Do I have to reset the contactless limit when my child has made 5 transactions via Apple Pay?

No.

As each transaction is approved using your child’s biometric data (Face ID or Touch ID) each transaction already meets the Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) requirement and doesn’t count towards your contactless limit.

Why does my child’s Rooster Card look different in their Apple Wallet?

All of the images in the Apple Wallet are landscape.

As some of our creative cards are portrait, we’ve had to spin this around to fit into the Apple Wallet, which is why the images look a little different.

How do I remove the Rooster Card from the Apple Wallet?

If you no longer want to use Apple Pay, or if the device linked to your Apple Wallet has been damaged, lost or stolen and you would like to remove Apple Pay, you can do this directly from the Apple Wallet:

  • In the Apple Wallet app, tap the card you want to remove

  • Tap the More button, then Card Details

  • Scroll down and tap Remove This Card

For more information about removing Apple Pay from your device, please reach out to Apple Pay support found here.
